Yoichi had been raised and taught as a traditional samurai 'bushi' for 17 years until his father announced he could teach him no more. He arranged for Yoichi to continue training at a dojo operated by one of his father's colleagues. Yoichi must leave his rural mountain existence to live with his father's friend's family in the city so he can study.
