Kit has very little recollection of his home country of Vietnam. When he returns to the Land of the Golden Star for the first time in over thirty years, he takes in his surroundings as any Western tourist would, and the atmosphere is as alien as the language. Kit's search to find a spot to scatter his parents' ashes therefore becomes part of a journey back to his roots and the discovery of his identity, which has been made unclear and convoluted by external circumstances.
